Abstract: This report provides an objective practical basis for the design and construction of pile foundations. Potential problems and uncertainties in pile design and construction are emphasized. Specific technical issues addressed include the characteristics of pile types, pile design, pile installation, and construction control. The features, uses, advantages, and disadvantages of most major types of driven and drilled piles are covered. Organizational and financial aspects are also discussed.
