A method is presented by which the hydraulic design of small hydropower facilities can be economically optimized and then tested for sensitivity to variations in hydrologic prediction. Specifically, this method provides a means by which major project components (i. e. , intake, pipeline(s), turbine, tailrace) can be chosen so as to provide the optimal economic rate of return for the project.
