Abstract:

The paper documents the La Perla-Hercules pipeline and its control system. This eight and fourteen-inch, 382-kilometer iron ore concentrate slurry pipeline was commissioned in June of 1983. Also described is the methodology and rationale for the selection of a slurry pipeline control system based on the use of programmable controllers. A discussion of the control requirements for large slurry pipelines is presented. Terminology and design considerations are provided.
