Part of: Cold Regions Construction: A State of the Practice Report

Abstract:

An overview of requirements is presented for the planning, design, and construction of roads, pads, and airfields using water, ice and snow as construction materials. Practical guidelines for equipment, construction techniques, and maintenance are presented as well as economics and problems associated with this type of project. Using water, ice and snow as construction materials in cold regions is now commonplace, but the success of each project still is highly dependent on weather conditions.
