Express Buses: Private Sector to the Rescueby William F. Hoey,
Abstract: Declining subsidies and rising costs are endangering express bus services which have been highly successful in competing with the private auto. A system concept with private carriers operating peak-hour commuter buses and public carriers operating off-peak express travel, is proposed. Anticipated obstacles to implementation and potential ways to overcome them are discussed.
