Abstract: The three-dimensional hydrodynamical numerical model for predicting tides is designed. It applies the one- and two-layer model to the Taiwan Strait, and solves the phenomena of M2 and M2 + S2 + K1 + O1 tides. Tides computed by this model show good agreement with measured data. The co-tide lines, co-amplitude lines, tidal current chart, and tidal current ellipse are made. The open boundary points at the south and north sides of the Strait are established by the trial-and-error method using 21 measured tide fluctuation data along the coasts and islands of Peng-Hu.
