Abstract:

With the prospect of an increasing shortage of energy resources, there has been a growing interest in renewable alternative sources of energy. An increasing effort is being directed towards the problem of extracting energy from the world's oceans since the oceans represent a vast potential resource of renewable energy. To help meet a response to national energy concerns, the Task Committee on Ocean Energy of the Waterway, Port, Coastal and Ocean Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers has compiled this bibliography of over 1300 entries on ocean energy. Subjects covered include wind-generated waves, tides, ocean temperature gradients, salinity gradients and ocean currents.
