Abstract: The postbuckling strength of web elements in bending and the interaction of beam web and flange have been studied to determine their influence on the moment capacity of beams having either stiffened or unstiffened compression flanges. Based on the test results of 68 beam specimens having stiffened compression flanges and 34 beam specimens having unstiffened compression flanges, four methods are developed for predicting the ultimate moment capacity of cold-formed steel beams with due consideration given to the actual bending strength of web elements.
