Abstract: The need for research in areas of bridge loading is examined. It is argued that one reason research is incomplete is poor definition of the requirements. The main priorities for research are defined. Subjects for research include traffic loading for both long and short span bridges, braking, or longitudinal, forces, fatigue, and environmental effects. Research problems are given.
