Abstract: Using the theory of elasticity, values of stiffness coefficients for vertical and horizontal modes are evaluated for cases for which solutions are not available. Three types of pressure distributions and three types of displacement conditions are considered. It is shown that the computed values can be used to predict the response of footings subjected to vibration, using discrete models comprising of equivalent mass, stiffness, and damping coefficients.
