Abstract: The load-deformational behaviour of a thin-walled circular cylinder in the presence of axial force is studied. Based on the small deformation theory, an exact analysis is presented for the bending of the cylinder. Results are presented in the form of the charts with two design parameters. The use of these charts is shown by examples for determining the stress and strain distributions, maximum stress and strain, resultant force and moment, and pipe-wall thickness.
