The screw plate load test application to stiff clays has been further developed to provide more accurate results with greater efficiency in testing. From the results of this test direct calculation may be made of undrained and drained modulus, undrained shear strength and coefficient of consolidation. Temperature effects have been minimized and electronic load and deflection measurement have been incorporated. An alternative proposal has been made for interpretation of settlement-time results. Results for undrained parameters obtained from field tests in stiff Adelaide clay have been favourably compared with those from self-boring pressuremeter tests.
