Document Type: Feature article

Abstract:

A computer program is featured that is useful for determining section properties of geometric shapes used in a variety of applications, such as the use of built-up or nonstandard sections. Computation of structural section properties can be simple and accuracy-assured when performed on the computer using the BASIC program described. It is also quicker than calculating properties by the statistical method. Also explored are preparing a detailed sketch of the cross-section being investigated and assigning horizontal and vertical coordinates to each vertex as shown in an example.
