Abstract:

The National Committee on Employment Conditions is reviewing Manual 55�� Guide to Employment for Civil Engineers and is requesting comments. Changes and additions deal mainly with nonsalary benefits: (a) the definition of base payroll; (b)whether or not benefits should be characterized as basic or optional; (c)consideration given to length of vacation being based on professional grade and years of service, rather than just years of service; (d)adding dental insurance, medical examinations and liability insurance; (e)adding a new section called Extended Leave for pursuit of professional interests and civic service; (f)adding maternity benefits to sick leave; (g)clarifying the section under Separation; and (h)considering adding a section on Prepaid Legal Services.
