Abstract: Tangent stiffness matrices are derived for the geometrically nonlinear analysis of elastic framed structures with nonprismatic members. These matrices are symmetric and entirely consistent with the conventional beam-column theory. Also, a perturbation technique is described for the determination of the generalized stability and bowing functions and their relevant derivatives.
