Abstract: The idealization of flat plates under flexure into equivalent grid frameworks of beams or shafts, or both, has developed since the original method was proposed. In this note, an improved version of Yettram and Hussain's model is established for a square configuration, so that possible linear variation of bending moment and the associated shearing force can be taken into account. As a consequence, a more realistic modeling can be made for thick plates where shear deformation is significant. Problems are presented which show a good measure of agreement with those from the finite element method of Pryor, et al., over a wide range of thicknesses.
