Abstract:
The major mechanical equipment installed in the nation's largest pumping plant is briefly described. There is a description of the plant layout design and assembly of the pumps, the discharge valve system, the method of thrust containment in the pump itself as well as in the piping, how the discharge line is filled, and how the discharge line is drained for inspection and maintenance. Also, there is an analysis of the method of pump procurement and how the guaranteed pump efficiency was established. The method of starting the pump and some of the operating difficulties are described.
