Abstract: The adsorptive and absorptive capabilities of tidal marshlands have been estimated using various techniques. Thus far, measuring that portion of organic matter (soluble and solid) representative of marsh productivity has been difficult. To eliminate some of the distortions associated with such measurements, a model based on the convective-diffusion equation was used to estimate 5-day biochemical oxygen demand additions from a tidal marsh to a northern temperature zone estuary.
