Abstract: Details are presented of a procedure for analyzing inelastic beam and beam column problems of arbitrary thin-walled open cross section, under the assumption of no strain reversal. The finite element formulation associated with such a procedure and the expressions for programming the necessary computation of section properties and element matrices are given. The technique has been illustrated by solving some simple problems for which alternative results are available.
