Abstract: Analysis of indentation of an ideal plastic material by a footing with finite sliding friction on its bearing face requires the use of a special set of limit analysis theorems obtained by Drucker. This technical note demonstrates that footing roughness has little effect for a strongly cohesive soil as both solutions approach the same value when the cohesion is relatively large.
