The efforts to keep abreast, maintain relevancy, and to be anticipatory in planning and deision-making are pursued with rigor in the attempt to provide for the future. Considerations of the role of the civil engineer and of civil engineering in serving future societies are among the many such efforts. A great deal of time and thought is being given to the type of education process required to prepare civil engineers to assume their role and to carry out their particular function. Graduate education and continuing education are prime topics for discussion.
