Abstract: A model filter was dosed intermittently at four rates with a soluble carbon-limited feed water. It was found that aerobic conditions could be maintained at organic and hydraulic sidewall loading rates up to 0.005 lb of BOD and 11 gal per sq ft per day. A sparkling effluent was obtained.
