Hollow Tubular Beam-Columns in Biaxial Bending

Interaction equation for biaxially bent beam-columns recommended by the Column Research Council Guide to Design Criteria for Metal Compression Members and other specifications is shown to lead to inconsistent predictions when applied to hollow tubular columns. A modified equation is proposed for such sections. Comparisons with small scale test results indicate that satisfactory predictions can be obtained using the modified equation.
