Abstract: Presented herein is a power series solution to the mixed initial and boundary value problem in three-dimensional elastodynamics. Based on the characteristic properties of the governing hyperbolic system of equations, the problem is reduced to solving initial value problems in Cauchy-Kowalewsky normal form along characteristic surfaces and obtaining discontinuity expansions about these surfaces. A numerical example is also presented.
