This investigation includes both analytical and experimental studies of the effect of a rigid right angle joint on the transmission of flexural and longitudinal stress waves. The results of this study are useful in understanding the dynamic response of structures subjected to high rate loadings. Analysis of this problem involves simultaneous solution of the effects of longitudinal and flexural stress waves. Solutions are obtained numerically using the method of characteristics. The excellent agreement between analysis and experiment substantiates the analysis developed in this study.
