Abstract: A solution is developed for the confined flow under a structure resting on four strata of equal thickness. It is expressed as an asymptotic expansion in terms of the structure length. Because this expansion is truncated after the first two terms the solution is approximate. The discharge is expressed in closed form in terms of well-known special functions which are tabulated in the paper. In addition it is compared with Polubarinova-Kochina's exact solution for the discharge through two strata of equal thickness.
