Abstract: A Preston tube and an array of miniature current meters for use in rivers and estuaries are described. Procedures are presented for making a Preston tube determination of boundary shear stress on hydraulically smooth, transitional, and rough surfaces in such natural waterways. Limited field results available appear to substantiate the method.
