Abstract: This note presents the results of a nation-wide survey regarding backfilling practices, a discussion of different design and construction philosophies, a study of existing ordinances and specifications, case histories, maintenance characteristics and tunneling procedures. The report of this study was issued by the St. Louis Section of ASCE in April 1968.
