Abstract:

The ultimate strength of steel members subjected to combined thrust and cyclic bending allowing for the effect of strain-hardening is analysed and checked by experiments. A numerical method for determining the moment-curvature diagram for any material and any cross sections is described and used. The procedures for calculating the inelastic deformation and the ultimate strength of a member subjected to combined thrust and bending are presented, and the inelastic behavior of a member subjected to cyclic bending under the constant thrust is analysed using above results. It is shown that these theoretical predictions are in accordance with test results.
