Space Critical for Aircraft Aprons

From analysis of operations a procedure for forecasting the number of aircraft parking positions for future traffic was developed. Geometric studies resulted in an improved parking configuration in radial wedges. This obtained flexibility to meet the needs for future aircraft dimensions, with efficient use of space. A circular waiting area is convenient and effective for handling passengers. Movable loading bridges can provide for various mixes of different aircraft sizes. The proposed aircraft with dual aisles may be best served by caliper type bridges on both sides.
