Abstract: The stability of elastic-plastic tubular cantilever columns is analyzed by means of a numerical integration technique. The solutions are approximated by semiempirical equations which are used to calculate the buckling strength of simply supported columns with arbitrary end eccentricities. Numerical examples are given and column curves drawn for a wide range of parameters. The results of the proposed method are discussed in the light of the interaction equations governing steel members subjected to axial force and bending given in the AISC specification.
