Abstract: A general complementary energy method is developed for buckling of plates of an arbitrary shape and subjected to arbitrary edge loads. For the purpose of illustration, the proposed method is applied to obtain exact and approximate solutions for a number of problems of buckling of rectangular and circular plates.
