Abstract: An experimental study has been made of the R-jump and S-jump occurring below abrupt symmetrical expansions in rectangular channels. A new characteristic length has been developed to correlate the mean flow characteristics of the S-jump. The S-jump has been treated as a three-dimensional turbulent wall jet.
