Document Type: Journal Paper

The equations of waterhammer, as derived by the method of characteristics, are applied to oil pipeline systems. It is shown that oil pipeline transients may be calculated by these methods, with the aid of a digital computer. Experimental confirmation is given by comparison with field tests.
