Abstract: An electrokinetic transducer was used to measure the electro-kinetic-potential fluctuations produced by turbulent flow of tap water in an open channel. The distributions of turbulent intensities across the channel and the mixing of wakes behind a circular cylinder in the turbulent shear flow were then inferred from the measured electrokinetic data. The results show good agreements with available data taken with a hot-wire anemometer in air flows.
