Analysis of Short Span Folded Plates

A short span folded plate has been analyzed considering two way slab action and nonlinear normal stress distribution between the fold lines. The slab is considered continuous over the fold lines and simply supported at the end diaphragms. The membrane stresses are computed by treating plates as deep beams. Compatibility at fold lines is satisfied by equalizing the longitudinal displacements. The deep beam analysis is made for normal loading due to plate reactions and shear loading due to compatibility conditions. The minimum energy principle has been used for deep beam analysis. The final moments and stresses have been compared with Goldberg and Leve's elasticity method. The proposed method is suitable for a design office without the use of computers.
