Analysis of an Inelastic Column

An inelastic column that is deformable throughout is analyzed. Simplifying assumptions are that the column is pinned at both ends and is symmetrical about its midspan, the cross section is rectangular, and the material is bilinear. By making certain assumptions about the strain distribution throughout the column, nonlinear differential equations are derived. Solutions of these equations, obtained on a digital computer, are presented.
