Document Type: Journal Paper

Investigation of stability of surface layer of models of granular masses of cylinders or spheres to determine slope of mass of granular solids having importance in calculating stability of earth-fill dams; it is found that in mass composed without stacking faults of identical frictionless cylinders, surface layer will not become unstable until its angle of slope with horizontal becomes 90°.
