Study of motion of vapor-liquid interface by neglecting its spreading under influence of gravity and of its spreading, considering steam column in straight portion of pipe; it is found that occurrence of collapse of steam column depends on elevation of point of separation, slope of pipe, and velocity of flow at separation; spreading of interface is described by 2 quasi-linear partial differential equations that are hyperbolic.
