Abstract:

Variational principle for incompressible laminar flows is presented; case in which boundary conditions specify velocity on one part of boundary and stresses on remainder of boundary is considered; variational principle is applied to approximate computation of velocity distribution for laminar flow in square and rectangular ducts; approximate and exact solutions are compared.
