Abstract: Factors that should be taken into consideration in design of cooling pond to develop maximum cooling efficiency, are presented; importance in arid regions of Southwest; description of 3300 acre ft pond at Cholla 290 Mw power plant and Four-Corners 350 Mw power plant both in New Mexico; construction of cooling pond dams, reservoirs, and intake structures; comparison with cooling tower systems.
