Abstract: Alaska has presented many challenges to mapmakers in the form of terrain, weather, and logistics problems. At the same time it has been an opportune proving ground for the development of new and enterprising techniques. An outstanding example of Alaskan mapping projects was that recently completed in the Brooks Range Area. The Alaskan mapping accomplished to date has been a joint effort of the Geological Survey, Coast and Geodetic Survey, and Department of Defense.
