Abstract: This is a study undertaken to determine the number of samples needed to obtain reasonable correlations between pedologic soil types and their engineering properties. Data from four DeWitt County soils give a quantitative indication of the value of pedologic information in planning, designing and constructing highways and airports in Illinois.
