Abstract: In conduit of Santeetlah Hydroelectric Project, NC, analysis has shown that black deposit adhering to walls consists of metallic oxides, mostly manganese; determination of process by which materials are extracted from lake water; annual power loss of 5,000, 000 kw-hr is caused by deposit; most effective means of removal is mechanical cleaning by hydraulic jets.
