Abstract: Theoretical analysis yields expressions for incipient motion and net velocity of single spherical bottom sediment particles under oscillatory waves; relationships are verified by experiment; prediction of equilibrium relationships between local wave characteristics, bottom slope and median particle diameter found on natural beaches.
