Abstract: Two methods for computation of water surface profiles used for development of tail water rating curves and backwater profiles; examples of each method are included which show computational procedure; tail water curves are used in design of power plants, pumping plants, and energy dissipators such as stilling basins; use of backwater curve above dam for reservoir land acquisitions and easements, design of new pumping plants, bridges, power plants.
