Document Type: Journal Paper
Abstract: Location of largest principal stresses and maximum shearing stresses presents special problem in many practical beam applications; cases exist in which stress extrema are induced at intermediate fibers; method to provide rapid check on possible occurrence of stress extreme at intermediate locations and design charts for two common cross-sectional shapes; computation of simple parameters required for solution.
