Abstract: Numerical method for analysis and laboratory model studies; sections of sand drain nearest to surface contribute least to consolidation; drain extended nearly to bottom of layer will give more consolidation per foot of drain than completely penetrating drain; economic advantages of partially penetrating drains in some cases.
