Studies on open channel flow in range of Reynolds numbers below about 4×104; hydraulic diameter is used as length parameter in Reynolds number; results indicate that at small Reynolds numbers, smooth channel flow, both laminar and turbulent, is quantitatively similar to smooth pipe flow; rough channel flow is probably qualitatively similar to rough pipe and rough plate flow.
