Sedimentation studies were carried out in the laboratory to substantiate Hazen's theory that sediment removal is dependent upon surface area and independent of depth. The results showed that removal of sediment was dependent upon the force of the incoming water. This paper covers the work done on sedimentation at Purdue University from July 1, 1949 to November 1, 1955. Funds for this project were obtained through the Federal Security Agency, Public Health Service, National Institutes of Health.
